LIGHTWAVE®

Home/Leber Skin & Laser Center/LIGHTWAVE®

An inevitable part of the aging process is the loss of fundamental collagen and elastin production that is essential to maintaining youthful skin. Without these components, which play a vital role in the skin’s ability to repair and restore itself, dermal imperfections such as acne, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation, often become more prominent. LIGHTWAVE® is a highly effective skin rejuvenation technology designed to revitalize collagen and elastin production through red, blue, and infrared light therapy. Dr. Geoffrey Leber, our board-certified plastic surgeon, offers both applications of this technology—LIGHTWAVE® LED light therapy and LIGHTWAVE® topical light infusion—at his Scottsdale Skin Care and Laser Center to improve an array of skin conditions without invasive treatment or major downtime.

What is LIGHTWAVE® LED Light Therapy?

The LED light therapy treatment from LIGHTWAVE® is an innovative anti-aging and skin rejuvenation technique to heal the skin through a process that mirrors the mechanisms of photosynthesis. Similar to the way in which plants undergo photosynthesis to naturally convert light into energy, LED light therapy transforms red and infrared light energy into cellular energy (ATP) to catalyze natural processes beneficial to skin health, such as the stimulation of collagen and elastin production, as well as the removal of toxins, excess pigment, and scar tissue. This is accomplished using non-invasive, non-ablative technology, meaning the LIGHTWAVE® laser can target skin tissue in problem areas without actually destroying it.

Who is a Candidate for LIGHTWAVE® LED Therapy?

LED light therapy can improve years of acne, sun damage, and environmental damage, as well as wrinkles and fine lines that may be causing premature aging. With treatment personalized to your individual needs and skin goals, LED therapy from LIGHTWAVE® can help patients struggling with:

  • Mild to moderate acne
  • Scar tissue
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Sun damage
  • Mild skin laxity
  • Inflammation or discomfort

The red, blue, and infrared light energy utilized during treatment can also benefit patients who simply strive for an overall improvement in skin tone and texture. After assessing whether LED light therapy is well suited to address your concerns, our skin care practitioner can determine the most appropriate LIGHTWAVE® protocol to achieve your desired results. Each LED light therapy session typically takes between 8 and 30 minutes depending on the nature of your concerns, and a series of treatments is recommended to allow the best possible outcome.

What is LIGHTWAVE® Topical Light Infusion?

As the second application of LIGHTWAVE® technology, topical light infusion (TLI) similarly utilizes light energy to revitalize skin health and enhance your complexion. However, unlike LED treatment, TLI is designed to deliver topicals to the different layers of the skin by combining facial infusion with light therapy. Rather than using light energy to directly affect skin cells, the targeted tissue is treated with topicals that are activated and infused into the skin using light therapy. By allowing light and photo energy to infuse topicals into the treated area, the body is able to more effectively absorb the active ingredients that can reverse skin damage and signs of aging.

Who is a Candidate for LIGHTWAVE® Topical Light Infusion?

With each topical treatment optimized to target a unique skin concern, LIGHTWAVE® topical light infusion can foster healthier-looking skin for a range of cosmetic skin conditions. This non-invasive treatment can improve the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Discoloration and sun damage
  • Burn, surgery, acne scars
  • Skin that appears dry and/or dull
  • Loose, inelastic skin
  • Acne, inflammation, or oily skin

There is an array of masks and TLI treatment protocols to choose from based on your skin needs and cosmetic goals. Performed here at our practice, each TLI session typically takes less than an hour and the best results from topical light infusion are usually achieved after a series of treatments. Our LIGHTWAVE® practitioner can evaluate your skin and develop the best treatment plan to help you attain a radiant, glowing complexion.
