Skin Therapy—Microneedling, PRP, and LED

A combination facial treatment consisting of microneedling, platelet rich plasma (PRP) and LED light therapy can transform the face. The microneedling with PRP treatment works by creating micro-injuries into the dermis which we then topically apply the platelet rich plasma to. This combination treatment results in newly created collagen, softer lines, firmer skin and improved texture. The primary skin concerns we often come across at Dr. Leber’s office include the following:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Sun Damage, Pigment
  • Acne scars
  • Dryness
  • Low cellular turnover
  • Uneven tone and texture
  • Inflammation
  • Rosacea
  • Enlarged/Clogged pores
  • Dullness
  • Thinning and skin laxity (collagen and elastin depletion)

Topical treatment methods are sometimes not enough, as they solely focus on the epidermal layer. Microneedling, however, is the preferred method of penetration into the vascularized layer where a resurfacing treatment produces better results for our patients. Dr. Leber’s aestheticians use the micropen to perform all microneedling procedures to treat patients. Our aestheticians have performed over 500 of these treatments. Using the micropen, we can revitalize cells by stimulating collagen and elastin synthesis in a noninvasive procedure done in the office.

As we age, inactive skin cells build layer upon layer, creating a barrier between the surface of the skin and our dermis. Over time, the lack of nutrient absorption and cellular turnover deprives the skin of vitamins and its ability to produce fresh skin cells. Micro-needles break through this barrier and open direct channels to the dermis.

Platelet Rich Plasma PRP and Microneedling

In addition to opening micro-channels in the skin, our aestheticians are able to introduce platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to infuse the newly opened channels. Before any microneedling treatment, a member of Dr. Leber’s staff will draw a small vial of blood. It will then be run through a centrifuge, which isolates the blood plasma (PRP serum) from the red blood cells. Platelet-rich plasma is the body’s internal healing solution used to repair damage from these micro-needles, which is familiar to the skin as is comes from the body.

PRP is the ultimate multi-potent solution activating the skin with five main growth factors solely found in blood plasma—FGF (fibroblasts), EGF (epithelial), PDGF (platelet-derived), VEGF (vascular epithelial), TGF-Beta (wound healing). This blend of PRP and microneedling treatments offer healthy skin enhancements with improved healing.

Healing With LED Light Therapy

After the microneedling and PRP treatment, each patient will sit under an LED light which promotes quick recovery by reducing inflammation and redness. LED light therapy uses a spectrum of light and colors that each treat the tissue at varying depths. Dependent upon each patient’s particular needs, a specific color can be focused. For example, blue light can treat acne while red light improves swelling and redness.

How many microneedling, PRP, and LED light therapy treatments will I need?

Dr. Leber recommends a total of four to six sessions of this combination skin treatment. Each session of microneedling and PRP should be performed every four to six weeks to see results.
