Panniculectomy

Large redundant overhanging tissue in the lower abdomen can make hygiene and day to day activities very difficult for morbidly obese people.  A panniculectomy is an effective way to remove overhanging tissue redundancy in the lower abdomen (pannus).  This technique is different than an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), because there is no tissue undermining and no abdominal wall tightening (suture plication).  This overhanging tissue can weigh 10 to 15 pounds in some patients.  Quality of life is significantly improved with a panniculectomy.  Many patients can increase their activity levels leading to a healthier lifestyle and subsequent further weight loss.
